PERFORMING / SINGING EXPERIENCE

25 years old; 172 cm in height; 50 kg in weight; having a thick, raspy and powerful voice; Huang Yida was initially ‘hidden’ by Sony BMG’s General Manager (Chui Zhen Dong). After 2 1/2 years of intensive training, with much credit to Lee Wei Song and Lee Shih Song’s unique foresight, Huang Yida has become the new artiste to look out for, following the dominance of Stephanie Sun!

The demo by Yida called ‘Di Xia Tie’ garnered top honours in the eyes of famed director Wong Kar-Wai, and he chose it as the theme song for the movie, ‘Sound of Colours’. Song BMG, with numerous top-selling recording artistes under its belt and enjoying top sales records in the industry under the strict guidance of General Manager Cui Zhen Dong, plans to return to the basics by focusing more on new artistes. Their latest new artiste, Huang Yida, is seen as a breath of fresh air in the Chinese Music industry.

Huang Yida employed a ‘La La La singing style’ in his ‘Di Xia Tie’ demo with an honest and raspy set of vocals, and immediately was selected by Director Wong Kar-Wai as the theme song for the movie. Following this, Elva Hsiao also made the song ‘Di Xia Tie’ as her album’s main song! The press, after listening to Yida’s vocals in the demo, immediately began to question: “Whose voice is this?”

Before Song BMG began promoting Yida’s album, they held numerous conferences for the audience and the press to listen to Yida’s vocals. Not only did top DJs give praise to him, Yida’s fans also began to set up websites to spread his fame far and wide! Huang Yida’s unique vocals, ‘pretty’ appearance and songwriting ability, always managed to incite everyone around him to wonder: “Is he really the one who wrote the theme song for ‘Sound of Colours’?” The public also wondered at the contrast between Yida’s vocals and his appearance: His looks being on the side of beauty, being likened to Stephanie Sun or Zheng Yuan Chang, yet his voice being so powerful, raspy and unique!

When Yida was 15 years old, he was given a guitar by his sister’s boyfriend. That was the time when he began to come into contact with music, and entered the doors of the Lee Wei Song School of Music exclaiming, “I want to learn music!” This began a long and arduous process of around nine years of learning and self-discovery.

In the words of Lee Shih Song, “The first time I saw Yida, I felt that his looks were very unique; he was very skinny, pale, and he looked rebellious and energetic, yet he had a relatively mature way of thinking and was certainly a special boy.” Huang Yida thus became the musical treasure that was polished under the guidance of teachers Lee Wei Song and Lee Shih Song for nine long years!!
Huang Yida actually enrolled at Lee Wei Song School of Music earlier than Stephanie Sun, yet because Stephanie launched her album before him, she became his “junior in the music school, senior in the music industry”! Stephanie Sun and Huang Yida both traveled to Taiwan to develop their musical potential, and because they both came from Lee Wei Song School, they share many things with each other. Stephanie often shares with Yida her experience with regards to launching her album and also handling the media, and also ‘lectures’ him in the ‘basics of being a recording artist’!

Talking about their personalities, Huang Yida notes: “Yanzi is like the bitter-sweet chocolate; on the outside, she looks like she can be one of our buddies, but on the inside, she’s 100% woman!” Yanzi also took initiative in writing ‘Jian Dan’ (Simple) for Yida, spending two weeks from conception to completion! She then instructed Yida not to make her lose face in front of the fans, and that he must do his best to sing her song, or else she will charge him double for the songwriting fees! Talking about Yida, Yanzi notes: “His life revolves around music and only music! This makes his life very simple (Jian Dan)!”
